Soknopaiou Nesos Project
Prof. Mario Capasso
Professor of Papyrology at Salento University. He is the Director of the Centre for the Papyrological Studies; President of Associazione Italiana di Cultura Classica and co-director of the Soknopaiou Nesos Project. He directs the Mission for the restoration of the papyri at Cairo Egyptian Museum and at Ain Shams University (Cairo). He is editor of scientific journals as “Papyrologica Lupiensia”, “Studi di Egittologia e di Papirologia”, “Scripta” and “Atene e Roma”. He is the author of two manuals about papyrology and of numerous scientific books and articles.
Prof.ssa Paola Davoli
Associate Professor of Egyptology at Salento University. She is co-director of the Soknopaiou Nesos Project and Field Director of the Archaeological Mission of Columbia University (NY) at Amheida (Dakheleh oasis), directed by prof. R.S. Bagnall. She is part of the scientific board of the journals “Studi di Egittologia e di Papirologia”, “Scripta” and “Bulletin of the American Society of Papyrologists”. She is author of five books and many scientific articles.
Dr.ssa Natascia Pellé
Dr Natascia Pellé is Papyrologist and graduated Technician working at the Centro di Studi Papirologici in the University of Salento. She coordinates the activities at the Centro and takes part in the Mission of Restoration of Greek and Egyptian Papyri held in Cairo Egyptian Museum and in Ain Shams University (Cairo) Directed by Prof. Mario Capasso. She is the Author of 1 monograph on the Historical Xenophon’s Papyri and of numerous scientific articles.
Cav. Luca Trombi
Luca Trombi is honorary president of the Associazione Culturale Soknopaiou Nesos. He is a young manager and entrepreneur. In 1996 became General Director of an important multinational oil company for Egypt and Oriental Africa. At present he is a director of Weatherford, an American company leader in the energy sector. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, for which he promotes activities and supports.
Beside the professional activities, Luca Trombi has been an active supporter of cultural and social actions in Egypt. He financed some Italian archaeological projects in Egypt, as the Archaeological Mission of the Centro di Studi Papirologici of the University of Salento at Soknopaiou Nesos. Moreover, he distinguished himself by helping humanitarian associations in Africa and by supporting the Catholic Church in Cairo in favour of Italian old people and orphans resident in Egypt.
The Egyptological and Papyrological Library of the Museo Papirologico of the University of Salento was entitled to Luca Trombi as a sign of gratitude for his important support to the cultural activities of the Centro di Studi Papirologici.
On 26th December 2006 he received the “Ordine Al Merito Della Repubblica Italiana”.
